Adventure in Luxor, a Day Trip
The city that was once the capital of ancient Egypt. Luxor (ancient Thebes) lies on the east bank of the Nile River in southern Egypt. Having been the capital, the city is filled with great temples. In the morning, I will be waiting at your hotel’s lobby to start your adventure to the wonderful city of Luxor. Your stop would be at Luxor Temple. The Luxor Temple is a large ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile River in the city today known as Luxor. Luxor Temple was the largest and most significant religious center in ancient Egypt. The complex was constructed approximately 1400 BCE. In the Egyptian language, it is known as ipet resyt, "the southern sanctuary.” What remains from the complex now include the colossal Great Colonnade Hall, almost 61 meters long, with 28 twenty-one-foot-high columns, its decoration largely undertaken by Tutankhamun around 1330 B.C. Next, you will get to discover the magnificent temple of Queen Hatshepsut (Karnak temple). Also known as Djeser-djeseru, the temple is Hatshepsut’s mortuary temple, where her cult was practiced after her death when she attained the blessed state of Osiris. The temple consists of three levels each of which has a colonnade at its far end. Then you will go to visit the Valley of Kings and Queens. The valley is the place where over sixty tombs and an additional twenty unfinished ones that are little more than pits were buried in a desolate dry river valley across the river from the ancient city of Thebes. Thus, it took its name as the Valley of Kings. You will be also visiting the Colossi of Memnon, two monumental statues representing Amenhotep III (1386-1353 BCE) of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. After these visits, you can have lunch in the nearby restaurant. Finally, you will get dropped back to your hotel/ hostel.
